Buzz about Casa Bonita

I've lived in Denver for 25 yrs., and still can't over people raving about this horrible place. If you have young children, keep them on a leash, or they will disappear in this monstrosity, although they will love its tackiness - despite the fact that it's very obviously a tourist trap, half the games don't work, and if you are unfortunate to run into the ... um, "entertainers" expect them as well as the wait staff to be surly and rude (that's IF they speak English). It's dark, dank, and apparently hasn't been cleaned since it opened. Don't eat the food (very $ and absolutely nasty - think Exxon oil spill meets government cheese) or you'll be needing the restroom, probably before you leave. Which is regrettable also, since their cleanliness ... well, it leaves a LOT to be desired. My husband's sister and niece decided last summer to have a b.day party for his great-niece here while they were in town, so I got unwillingly drug to C.B. I have already told everyone that I will NEVER ... GO ... AGAIN, period. I don't give a @*&#^$ what celebration is occurring. Just think about this place, I feel a migraine coming on.

The only people who don't have fun here are uptight food snobs. Don't get me wrong, I'm a total foodie, I love a great seared ahi anytime! But this place is a Denver landmark and just all around fun for those times when you don't have a ton to spend. Buy the cheapest thing you can get (or the fajitas are okay), but the food really does stink! Just load up on chips, salsa, sopapillas and margaritas (if you're old enough) and enjoy getting lost in the caverns and mines, enjoy the cheesy performances and lounge by the waterfall. Be a kid again and lighten up!!

So after living in Denver for many years I finally gave in and decided to head to Casa Bonita to see/hear what many locals rave about. Needless to say, I wished I had held out a little longer. The food is the worst ever. It was an $11.99 tv dinner. Honestly it was so much worse that I ended up with an upset stomach afterward. To top it off a fountain drink will cost you $2.50 and its a regular sized drink. Do yourself a favor and skip this ridiculously overpriced establishment. Never again will I pay $80 for beyond crappy food!! (total for 4 people) And don't believe what you hear about the sopapillas and chip & salsa they are just as bad.

South Park explained this Mexican party perfectly as Cartman raised his table flag numerous times to get more sopapillas. You haven't really lived until you've been to Casa Bonita. It's a rite of passage for little kids, but even as a "grown-up" you can enjoy feeling the mist from the 30-foot waterfall, the evening mariachi band, scarfing sopapillas while you watch the cliff divers, or groping your way through the cave-like walkways with your significant other. There's lots of stuff for the little ones, like skits, puppets, pinatas, caricature drawings, but who's to say your inner kiddo wouldn't mind taking in a gorilla show? The food is mostly Mexican but you can also get chicken entrees and burgers. If you're a Casa Bonita virgin, you have to go here! In a "Casa Bonita Nutshell", you don't go for the food (it kind of sucks), you go for the entertainment!! <singing> Casa Bonita, Casa Bonita, Casa Bonita!
