Buzz about Richard's On 3rd Avenue

Tried Richards about a year ago and was underwhelmed. My friends and I decided to give it another chance. Ordered a "batch" type margarita that was so bad, I had to trade it in for a beer. My mango blue chicken enchiladas were so bland that I had to ask for some salsa to spice them up a bit. I was brought out a small serving of very mild Pace type salsa and then to add injury to insult, charged $2.50 for it. My business partner ordered chicken enchiladas with red sauce. There was so much chili powder in the sauce that it looked like Mole and tasted awful. Yuck! Our wives had salads. Total price for this disastrous dinner was $80 before the tip. Our waitress was friendly but obviously inexperienced and very unattentive. Richard spent the whole time flitting around in the garden. He needs to spend more time sorting out his recipes, prices and service and less time gardening. The only plus was a nice outdoor seating area. Not enough to get me to ever return however.

If I wanted good food and a bad attitude, I have other options. But to PAY to be treated poorly? Is the economy REALLY that improved in Longmont that whoever waited on me and my girlfriend today can act the way he did. If there was a MINUS rating for service, he'd get my Minus 10. WE WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN.

My husband and I live in town and started going to Richard's about 4 years ago. Richard has a dry sense of humor and always has us rolling. In the Spring we are typically the first ones begging to clean off the tables and sit outside.
Margaritas are HUGE and go well with the ceviche which is always a source of contention between Richard and his wife who often argue about whether to prepare with shrimps or scallops! Love that! The blue corn enchiladas with mango salsa is just so gooey and tasty and a perfect combination but I have started ordering it with light cheese. My husband and I love the ambiance; Outdoors, the sound of the water fountain along with Virginia creepers and heat lamps to warm you up, just add to a relaxing atmosphere. I always regret not discovering it for my pre-wedding family dinner spot! Throughout the summer months, baskets of bug repellents are available for those wanting to sit outside and not get chomped on by mosquitoes. Friends of ours who visited with us last year were just as entertained as we were by Richard, he was in prime form that night! :) So fun!
Richard will always be honest with you about the service. On some evenings if he's short staffed, he'll prepare you for a bit of delay but during his prime summer and fall months, he has enough waitstaff who are always attentive and patient as my husband and I can be demanding customers :) I find the value average for an old town boutique style restaurant/cafe. This is one of our favorite spots ever-- Thanks Richard! We'll be round in a few :)

Often confused, without much basis, for the 3rd Ave. Sub Shop, Richard's on 3rd is a historic house nestled within a cozy Longmont neighborhood. Just how Richard avoided zoning laws, we'll never know, especially with a liquor license for the award-winning Margaritas. The vegetarian green chile, which Richard swears is as addictive as heroin, is also an award winner. This is definitive southwestern cuisine, and not to be confused with Mexican grub, where the blue corn tortillas make all the difference. Summer's make for an idyllic margarita afternoon on the patio, where locals can do the tequila waltz home by foot.
