We went for the Afternoon Tea. The tea was good, however, when I asked for more hot water, they threw some tea bags in the pot of a different flavor than what I had originally ordered, and never made it back to our table so I could get that fixed. The quantity of pastries with the tea was pretty sparse. Another table had tray upon tray delivered to their table. We had to ask for more pastries, and instead of bringing a new tray, she acted like we asked for something unusual, asked what we wanted, and then brought some out on a plate and transferred them to the dirty tray we just emptied. Other than the multi-level tray, and dainty portions, everything was no different than service at any neighborhood cafe. For nearly $20 a head, I expected something elegant, and was disappointed. The atmosphere is stark, and the portions are small. If you are determined to go there, order from the menu, at $6-7 per person. You'll get more food, and the same service, for half the price of the afternoon tea.

While sipping my peppermint tea yesterday I realized I have been going to the House of Commons on Sunday mornings for just over 2 years. My how time flies. I just love the bright and crisp flavors of the teas they stock. And what a selection!! Lopsang su chong is one of my particular favorites with its smokey hints and caffeine jolt. The staff is very pleasant and Jessica the owner is a peach! The scones are great all day but I like to go just as the shop is opening and they have been pulled fresh from the oven. Have yours with the curds and Devonshire double cream. The lemon curd is made from scratch...can you believe it? The server Barb was very accommodating and pleasant...even upgrading our water glasses to larger ones after seeing how quickly we had emptied the small ones. I truly love this place...there is no other like it in town!

Try one of these tips to improve your results:
  • Ensure your search term was spelled correctly.
  • Use a filter, search by neighborhood or drag and zoom the map to check a different part of town.
  • Make your search less specific (e.g. Chinese instead of Kung Pao chicken).
  • Are we missing a venue or event? Add it and let us know what you think.
  • Have you ever watched British politics on C-SPAN? Oh man, the US senate should really take a page out of these guys’ books. In the House of Commons, if someone (even the Prime Minister) says something stupid they get jeered, literally jeered, wow, if we did that the senate would need a ton of Ricola when the big P’ swings by. Not only that, on top of this raucous establishment you will find Big Ben. Another thing that should be looked at as a serious import is a good ol’ British cuppa! Oh yes, this ambassador of flavor is good for breakfast, lunch and straight after an episode of “Corry Street”. Take the big clock off the building and fill it with tea and you got yourself Denver’s own version of “The House Of Commons”. Order a cup and a scone with clotted cream; sit back and wonder with food like this, how England doesn’t have a bigger obesity problem.

Eh. I don’t feel strongly about it either way. I don’t hate it or love it, I wouldn’t recommend it or dismiss it, it just is.
