Buzz about Izakaya Den

I ate here once last year and then once again a few days ago.
This will be quick and to the point:
Sushi, as always in this restaurant and at Sushi Den, was superb.
Service was, iffy... but that's what we expect in Denver I guess. It would be nice if those expectations were raised... and then met...
The "tapas", or kitchen food. Bland. Out of season in December, and now, getting there, but pretty much the same menu... Pretty weak. Overcooked beef, undercooked halibut. We sent that back. And watched the kitchen just put the entire plate in the food warmer above the oven. Yah, we saw it, because unfortunately we were seated very close to the hot line. So we had to listen to the loud obnoxious "chef" talk bile all night long. Was pretty disgusting.
At least at Sushi Den, the sushi chefs are respectful of their patrons...
Needless to say we won't return to Izakaya.

Go here for dinner! You will not be disappointed. Whenever I have friends in town, I take them here for a great night out. The food is excellent, and there is never a long wait like the Den. I highly recommend the Jalapeno sashimi. I have only ordered sushi for dinner and a few tapas and have never been disappointed. The ambience is open and swanky. This is a great date spot or girls night out.

A quality taste of the eastern world right on Pearl Street, Izakaya Den is probably one of the most lavish places one can go to enjoy elaborate Japanese dishes. Sister establishment to the Sushi Den, located just up the block, Izakaya offers Asian dishes that are as tasty as they are pretty. Every bite is enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere with a complete sushi bar, upstairs lounge, and full bar to reflect the izakaya dens that serve as after work pubs in Japan.
