Buzz about PS Lounge

Even if its not your neighborhood, this cash only dive has been serving up drinks to the hipster set for fifteen years as THE ‘before and after’ bar on any serious Colfax crawl. Within staggering distance of the Bluebird Theater, you’ll frequently spot musicians local and national sipping in one of the PS’s black vinyl booths.

I walked here with my fiance and entered the completely empty bar at approximately 3:15 pm today (Tuesday). The bartender (manager?) was sitting by himself as we walked in. Today is a sunny day, and I am sure to have a slight case of sunburn due to my lack of using sunblock. However as we sat at the bar, the bartender, a middle aged fellow most likely of Greek persuasion, first asked to see my ID. Now being a bar manager myself I have no issue with that. I politely provided it to him. Keeping in mind that I am 42 years old, he returned my ID to me and said he was uncomfortable with serving me. He poured my fiance a glass of water, and after listening to my request for a beer, he again said I did not look right, asked me if I had been out drinking today, and refused to serve me (for the record, I had not been out drinking at all, and would have completely understood if I had). I told him that was fine and walked out of the empty establishment. I will never set foot in that place again. I am extremely disappointed in the complete lack of customer service and encourage everyone to voice this to the ownership to show exactly why people do not go there during the day. Feel free to contact me at grandpaladium@gmail.com. Alex Snyder, Bar Manager, Troubleshooter, Consultant, and never again customer of P S lounge.

Who needs roses from a man when you can get them from a bar that along with a free shot? To call it a dive bar seems unfair...although the location on Colfax and the less than showy decor suggest a typical watering hole, the personality and neighborhood feel have made the P.S. Lounge a Denver favorite.

Right next door to Tommy’s Thai, the PS Lounge is another one of Colfax Avenue’s wonderful atavisms. Not large, its narrow interior is outfitted with classic Naugahyde booths along one wall, with the bar filling almost all of the other. It is easy to imagine its 60s cocktail-hour heyday, though you needn’t don your best togs for a night at the PS. The bartenders are uniformly up to snuff. They remember your name and what you drink.
