After the Wild West, I tend to think of the prohibition era as America’s storybook time. I mean look at it, there’s suppressive leaders taking from those less fortunate, gangsters, great balls (although in secret), and a menagerie of characters, good evil and everything in between. It seems that they had more fun trying to find the hooch (for drinking and confiscating) than we do since we got it back. Inside The Oxford hotel is a real relic from this era. The Cruise Room actually opened the day after prohibition ended. Now that’s pretty cool all upon itself. But what's more, the décor hasn’t changed much since then, with its art deco flair and old-school, martini room charm. So glam yourself up, pay the jukebox to play a 45” and raise your glass to all those who partied like it was 1999 when it wasn’t even close.
