Should you go see that movie? I'll tell ya what I think...

Movie tickets are ridiculously expensive ($15 at the Arclight, WHAT?!?!) I offer my (kinda) expert opinion on whether you should or should not spend your hard-earned and quickly dwindling funds on the latest theatrical releases.

    Watchmen - 4

Having not read Alan Moore's masterpiece, I left the theatre feeling quite confused and with the feeling that a lot went straight over my head. The only characters I felt any connection with (and it was a tenuous connection at best) were Rorschach and Silk Sceptre (the original). She had a way more interesting backstory and was a much better actress than Malin Akerman. The choice of music was horrible also...too literal and obvious. And did they really need to grotesquely reenact Kennedy's assassination? This is one I won't be seeing again.

    Moscow, Belgium - 4 1/2

Moscow, Belgium is Flemish director Christophe van Rompaey’s debut feature about the pursuit of love and happiness in working class Belgium. It is a romantic comedy in its purest form, complete with a meet-cute, a triangular love conflict and even a love-confession-by-karaoke scene that will make even the sappiest viewer squirm. But instead of the clean, pretty (and usually rich) people who generally populate the American version of the genre, here the characters are often disheveled, uncouth, and refreshingly real. I usually hate romantic comedies, but I truly liked this one.
