Founded in 1997, the Shadow Theatre Company is on a mission to, "develop cultural awareness through theatre and to provide an understanding, respect and appreciation of our history and culture as expressed from the heart of the human condition." Using mainly indigenous actors, artists and writers the theatre has put on 44 productions and continues to receive many accolades from the local community and press. Many of the Shadow's productions challenge audiences to reconsider their own values, attitudes and actions. The theatre also provides a five-week intensive program for local youths that culminates in a full production led by participants.
