No. 6: Steuben's Food Service
Location: 523 East 17th Ave between Pearl St. and Pennsylvania St.
Diner? Drive-In? Or Dive? Steuben's Food Service in Denver is a diner established in 2006. It came to the Mile High years after the original Steuben's Boston staple that made a name for itself in the city in 1945. Back in the day, Steuben's was the place to be for the after school hangout or evening dining and nightlife. Steuben's in Denver is carrying on its grandfather diner name recreating classic American regional cuisine. Vesta Dipping Grill executive chef Matt Selby and owners Josh and Jen Wolkon manage the joint that sits in the Uptown neighborhood.
Menu items include carnival-inspired fried corn on the cob slathered in butter, a rendition of mom's homemade meatloaf with mushroom gravy and a milkshake or two to wash it all down. Plus, the building itself is pretty interesting…housed in a converted auto-body garage with the bays still intact. No longer are Denverites looking to "Eat at Joes." No, no. They're looking to "Eat at Steuben's" for a down-home, comfort food, retro-dining experience.
What it's known for: Steuben's is here to cater to you, bringing menu favorites directly to you in the infamous Steuben's Food Truck. If you can't get enough of Steuben's customer favorites like the green chili cheeseburger, Maine lobster roll and gravy fries, you can follow the truck on Twitter @SteubensTruck and become a fan on Facebook to see when they'll be driving through your neck of the woods to satisfy your diner craving. They'll also be around town when all the major Denver festivals roll on in. Steuben lovers can also email the truck at truck@steubens.com.
