No. 4: Hill Top Tavern
Location: 4907 Lowell Blvd.
Diner? Drive-In? Or Dive? Dive dudes. Right in the working-class part of town sits this working-man’s tavern. No frills here, and it’s good that way. The only food is microwaved frozen pizzas and pitchers of beer run for $7. If that's not enough of a dive definition for ya…the pool tables will sometimes have all the balls for players and the ceiling has hundreds of pool stick holes punctured all over it. It's how regulars and newcomers alike make their mark. The joint won't run a tab, either. There's a flimsy cardboard sign that reads "we do not accept credit cards" written in Sharpie marker. The old fashioned jukebox features old '80s and '90s hits from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Santana and still gets the bar crowd singing along early and often. You can smoke to your heart’s content on the large outdoor patio and you'll always leave with a few more friends than you came in with.
What it's known for: Regulars boast about the place when Regis University alum Bill Murray (the star from 'Ground Hog's Day') stops in when he's in town. But in reality, the college and blue-collar crowd make this bar a true ol' dive. Sip a few pints of beer...they have a vast selection of tap brews (PBR, Bud Light and Busch…yep a whopping three) and snap a few cheesy yo' mama jokes with the regulars. Play a round of pool, make your mark in the ceiling and listen to a few oldies songs on the juke. Now, you're officially a Hill Topper for life. Welcome!
