Chocolates are a rite of passage for Valentine's Day. They symbolize ones love for another...and satisfy sweet tooths during the process. Instead of doing the usual (You know, going to Safeway and buying Russell Stover's thing), make a date out of it. We have listed dessert and candy shops to take your sweetie to buy some sweets. Let them do the picking out this year; you won't regret it.

D Bar Desserts
1475 E. 17th Ave. - DenverIf you give a mouse a cookie, it will probably ask for a glass of milk. You know a dessert restaurant is phenomenal when they have "milk and cookies" on their menu. At D Bar, you and your 'friend with benefits', will most likely 'benefit' with the sugary goodness they offer. They are even open for lunch and dinner, so you can make a full date out of it.
Belvedere Belgian Chocolate Shop
1468 Pearl St. #120 - BoulderBelvedere Belgian Chocolate Shop in Boulder is going to make this Valentine's Day one to remember. With so many different chocolates to choose from, you're better off just buying a couple of each. Your lover will be pleased that you didn't splurge on a $9.99 box from Walgreens this year. This is a mega-upgrade. Go get 'em, tiger.
Les Delices de Paris
5303 Leetsdale Dr. - DenverWe say "Oui, Oui" to this magnifique French pastry shop. There are so many desserts to choose from, it will be tough to decide on one...or five, for that matter. Come here after dinner and bring home some sweets to top off the evening with.
Devil's Food Bakery
1020 S. Gaylord - DenverSometimes love can be a little tart...so you can either walk away from it or you can douse your heart with a key lime tart. This bakery is a quaint little restaurant with some of the best cavity-enhancing sweets around. Whether your honey is jonesin' for cake or Sweet Tarts, they have all that and more.
Old Fashioned Bavarian Bakery
613 Frontage Rd. - LongmontIf you're dating someone who likes to "try new things," rather than taking them for a piece of pie at Village Inn, try out this Bavarian bakery in Longmont. But, if you're dating someone who is on a diet, they may slap you for taking them here. Bavarian desserts are heavy, with an emphasis on thick buttery crusts and crème baths.
Powell's Sweet Shoppe
1200 Pearl St. #110 - BoulderIf it has loads of sugar, they carry it. This isn't necessarily a 'dessert' restaurant, but how can we possibly leave this out? This is a perfect place to take your sweet one to after dinner on V-Day. Rather than buying the gift beforehand, let them pick out their own candy for a change!
Tee & Cakes
1932 14th St. - BoulderTee & Cakes is a fun-loving bakery with cakes, pastries, cupcakes and other yummy sweets to fulfill your wildest dreams. They close fairly early, so you can do a pre-date pitstop here and have your honey pick out something sweet later to eat in bed once the night is winding down.
Lovely Confections Bakery
1489 Steele St., #C - DenverLovely Confections has a fitting name for Valentine's Day. It is always at the top of our lists on where to get sugary delights in the city. They are always satisfying and perfectly sweet. Take our advice: If you haven't been the best boyfriend/girlfriend lately, Lovely Confections should help smooth things over.
