Something’s up with Belgium. It’s a quiet, unassuming country that never creates problems or draws attention to itself. Yet, an amazing number of high-quality products hail from there: Frites, waffles, chocolate, and beer. There are many who claim that Trappist ale from the Saint Sixtus Abbey is the best beer in the world. The Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Café may not stock anything from Saint Sixtus, which sells its brew only by appointment, but they’ve got 30-plus Belgian imports available, including Stella Artois and Hoegaarden. If you’ve never ventured much beyond Hefeweizen, the Hoegaarden is a good choice, as is the Blanche de Bruxelles. Of course, one can’t live by beer alone – although some have tried – so the Monk also has offers a full menu with burgers, frites, fish and chips, mussels, and even Belgian waffles for dessert.
