There is no need to save room for dessert if you eat it before dinner
When you were a kid, dessert was a tricky prospect. You always had to wait until after your meal, and if you didn't finish all that was on your plate you were in danger of being denied a post-dinner treat. This always seemed to be a bit of a contradiction, since you were trying to save room for dessert in the first place.
But now that we're all adults, we can go to a place like D Bar Desserts and order whatever we want, whenever we want. Delectable desserts is what this 17th Street cafe does best, but if you still feel guilty eating only dessert, they do offer up sandwiches and salads so you can savor what you eat afterwards all the more.
They keep it seasonal, so there are always new confections to indulge in. But of the few constants on the menu, the gourmet coffee is always a treat in itself. Also recognizing that a libation or two can be interpreted as a dessert, D Bar has full wine list and beers available to quench the alcoholic urge for those longing for stimulation beyond chocolate.
However, one should not confuse D Bar with a pastry shop or simply a dessert specialty shop; it is above all else a restaurant. It is meant to satiate the palate in a much more complete experience beyond just a ‘sweet vs. savory’ approach. This is best described by the owners, Keegan Gerhard and Lisa Bailey, in their mission statement:
“Food is a connection. D Bar is a destination dessert dining experience created to put people at ease– a culinary sanctuary where this connection can take place. D Bar dining is about memories. The food, service and surroundings will serve to rekindle fond food memories, and naturally inspire the formation of new ones. Our ultimate goal is to serve, inform and entertain. We aspire to inspire.”
Yes, these desserts are that serious— but as a result, seriously delicious. —Justin Jimenez, Metromix
