Kate's at 35th Avenue

Many restaurants across the world claim to be community based or "in the family." Until I found Kate’s I believed most of them, but now I’m not so sure they can live up to these standards. It's a great setting, from its historic 1886, restored farmhouse to it’s fenced-in backyard and patio, where Lily (owner Lynn’s pet dog) will greet any of your friendly dogs and frolic with them around the 100 year-old trees and lilac bushes. Lynn welcomes you to this home away from home and proceeds to feed you either all by herself or with help from neighbors. The menu is changed daily and only serves the healthiest plates in town, meeting and exceeding all requirements from health food guidelines. As Lynn puts it, "Good energy on the way in means good energy for those who eat it." Couldn’t say it better myself. Just make sure if you're not coming for lunch or the award-winning Sunday brunch that you book at least a day ahead and let Lynn know you're coming home for a stay. It's well worth the trip.
