Legendary rapper throws down at Summit Music Hall on Saturday
It should be no surprise that when a former member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan takes the stage, as Raekwon did on Saturday night in Denver, all things hip-hop and rap are bound to follow. B-Boy crews and fans of hip-hop crowded Summit Music Hall in LoDo, partying to a great DJ spinning the best hip hop and rap, and showing off some breakdancing skills as well.
The evening's festivities were actually the official Under Armour 3rd Rail Jam After Party, following some festivities the company put on up at Echo Mountain as part of the many things associated with the SIA convention. As is par for the course for hip-hop shows, things got started off pretty late, with the doors not opening until 9 p.m. and Raekwon not taking the stage until 12:30. But that gave everyone present plenty of time to warm up their party vibe and for the crowd to build for the final act. B-Boy crews started things off in the main crowd area of the venue, showing off all of their skills for everyone present. Then there was a short talent show, which was two finalists from a talent contest earlier in the day as part of the Under Armour Rail Jam. Two artists were given a few minutes each on stage in front of the crowd to represent their MC skills. Then the DJ took control of the party and spun everyone's favorites, from Snoop to Biggie; all while quite a bit of Under Armour gear was given away. Finally, Raekwon grabbed the mic and rocked many of not only his solo tracks, but quite a bit from the Wu-Tang days. The crowd seemed to know every lyric and kept their undying attention on the rap sensation. It was a night any hip hop fan would be sorry to miss. — Josh Barrett
