Honda Civic Tour digs deep at Red Rocks
Paramore returned to Denver Monday, this time at the helm of the Honda Civic Tour at Red Rocks. As good as openers Kadawatha, New Found Glory and Tegan and Sara were, they mostly served to prove just how impressive the headliners' accomplishments really are.
Paramore drew a near-capacity crowd of men and women; hipsters and pop fans; kids and parents. Sure, there were a few, uh, "Tegan and Sara fans" on hand, but the night was mostly about the Tennessee pop-punk band at the top of the bill. Frontwoman (and Metromix's secret girlfriend) Hayley Williams gushed throughout the show about how she had always dreamed of playing Red Rocks and seemed to be making an earnest effort to add importance and weight to both her words and the band's songs. While she could easily have trimmed a few minutes' worth of monologues (not to mention a few overwrought acoustic versions of Paramore's hits), it was hard to argue with the sheer star power and authenticity on display. — Matt Farley, Metromix
