MTV makes Denver a stop on their "Get Schooled" 10-city tour
Grammy Award winner Ludacris and Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony made special appearances at a local school on Friday to remind students about the importance of education. MTV’s Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour signed the Mile High City as a stop in the 10-city nationwide tour. Denver Public Schools awarded George Washington High School as being the lucky recipients to receive the red carpet MTV treatment.
It’s a disturbing fact, but every 26 seconds another student drops out of high school. In an interview with Ludacris backstage before the event, he told us how important education is in all areas of life. He may be a big superstar, but knowing how business works and being educated has been a huge factor that propelled his career early on. Carmelo Anthony talked about how high school would get tough on certain days, but he stuck to it, “There were some days I didn’t want to get out of bed and go to the first class, but I pulled through and at the end of the day, I was happy I stuck it out.”
Carmelo Anthony brought along his wife and former MTV ‘TRL’ host LaLa to help emcee the event and ask students what they want to be when they grow up. She said that math was a subject she didn’t like but it helps her manage all that money from her important career! If only we had that problem LaLa, if only.
Ludacris even performed two of his hit songs for the students…which made for some mad dancing skills by the students of George Washington High School.
All in all, it was a moving day to remind students how important it is to stay in school. After all kids, you want to grow up to be like us one day, don’t you?
