Frightened Rabbit joins Washington band for victory lap
Death Cab for Cutie took the Red Rocks stage Tuesday in Denver, continuing one of the longest victory laps in recent music history.
Starting with singer Ben Gibbard's surprising solo success in the late '90s and carrying on through Death Cab's new album "Codes and Keys," the band has been on a slow but steady upward trajectory that shows no signs of dropping. The Red Rocks stands seemed nearly full (not bad for two bands on a Tuesday night) when the band took the stage in near-total darkness and simply jammed for several minutes. The media was ushered out fairly early in the set, but we did hear the band run through the minor hit "Crooked Teeth" and 2008's "I Will Possess Your Heart." The crowd was already on their feet.
Opening act Frightened Rabbit may be from Scotland, but the local crowd was definitely familiar with their work; cheering from about the second chord on. — Matt Farley, Metromix
