Experimental DJ rips it up at the Denver Big Air after party
Dirty dubstep, grimy glitch, and psy-hop are terms you are most likely familiar with if you hit up the Ana Sia raging dance party at The Bluebird Theater on Wednesday night. That is, unless you just wanted to keep the fun going after watching snowboarders launch themselves into oblivion at the Denver Big Air competition. The show was meant to be the afterparty for all of those who were at the big event in Civic Center Park, but it was evident that there were some die-hard Ana Sia and Virtual Boy fans who were there just for the show, and to dance late, late into the night.
All of the DJs and musicians for the evening could definitely be considered "experimental," blending elements of electronica, hip hop, dubstep, and a myriad of fairly new styles of music. The first of the three acts for the evening was Superdre, who did well in warming up the crowd and the decks as well. To follow was Virtual Boy, a dual outfit from Los Angeles that some might argue could have stolen the spotlight for the evening.
They blended beats that were reminiscent of bands like Ratatat, Daft Punk, and Crystal Castles. The energy was high for the band as the Bluebird started to fill up later into the evening. Finally Ana Sia took the stage, bringing a climax to the crazy party happening in the venue. The San Fransisco based DJ was relentless in flooding the speakers with high energy beats. It was definitely a major party to finish off the events of the majorly successful Denver Big Air!
