Academy of Country Music Awards 2011
The 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards pitched a big tent in Las Vegas on Sunday night, making room for classic rockers and pop divas amidst the usual Nashville stars. Rihanna and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles teamed up for a duet on "California King Bed," and Carrie Underwood walked this way with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler on a rocked-out version of her song "Undo It." But not all was new-fangled in Vegas on April 3: Alabama opened the show on a classic country-rock note with Brad Paisley, and Taylor Swift broke out a banjo for her rootsy new single, "Mean."
Performances far outnumbered actual awards, but for the record, the evening's big winners were Taylor Swift (Entertainer of the Year), the Band Perry (New Artist), Lady Antebellum (Album of the Year and Best Vocal Group), and Miranda Lambert (four awards, including Top Female Vocalist and Single of the Year for "The House That Built Me").
