The grass is greenerpick

Is it coincidence "4/20" falls near Earth Day?

April 14, 2008

The grass is greener
Not the grass you're thinking of?
Earth Day is on April 22. "4/20" is on....April 20. Coincidence? We think not. We all know that Boulder celebrates  the "green" on this momentous holiday, but so does Denver. Now you can see which bands are playing on 4/20. So go on, grab your buds and have a high time.
GSP with Pretty Lights & Savoy

GSP with Pretty Lights & Savoy

Fox Theatre - 1135 13th St. - The Hill

Have a little THC for GSP. This is a Green Apple Festival Show and it's on Boulder's favorite holiday---4/20. GSP is all about bringing a new electronic experiece to the crowd with downtempo beats and a theatrical performance. The doors open at 8 p.m. Don't forget your Visine.

Dark Star Orchestra

Dark Star Orchestra

The Oriental Theater - 4335 W. 44th Ave. - Denver

This band is for some serious Deadheads. Being the tribute band for the Grateful Dead, this band covers the band's 30-year touring span. But they also interpret the songs differently, making it quite the experience for people to go down memory lane. This may include indulging in the same drug of choice from the 70s, but either way, this concert is for everybody to enjoy. On drugs, or not.

Man Man with Yeasayer

Man Man with Yeasayer

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Makes sense that this band is playing on a holiday for many stoners. While we contemplated what kind of music they play we came up with "Indie Funk" but in actuality of the matter...we have no bloody clue. They definitely have their own style and flair that's for sure. If you have ever heard of the band, Gogol Bordello, they have a sampling of their style. Hell, even their band photo is pure craziness. Come see them live and you're bound for a bizarre night.

Big Time Entertainment Show

pick Big Time Entertainment Show

Hi-Dive - 7 S. Broadway - Denver

The Big Time Entertainment Show has one thing in mind, and that is to connect the bands with their fans. They want fans-to-be and super fans to enjoy their amazing lineups for every show they put on. One of the bands performing, The Invisible Now, puts it perfectly, "Less Metro. More Sexual," we don't know how it fits in with the whole scheme of things but at least they're cool. The Invisible now is more powerpop and Maricopa Madman is more county and bluegrass. So no matter which way you swing, you know it's safe to swing to the left when Big Time Entertainment is putting on one of their shows.

Divine Heresy with Sworn Enemy

Being on the stoner's holiday of 4/20, you know there will more than likely be some wacky tabaccy wafting through the air. That's probably the drug of choice at this concert. Make sure to sport your black t-shirt and guy-liner thickly put on your eyes. This show is not for a priss who complains of headaches...as they'll probably give you one by the end of the night.

Poi Dog with Very Special Guests at Walnut Room

Playing for more than 20 years, this group brings the soul to our binge drinking lives. If you need a little pick-me-up, Poi Dog should do the trick. It is definitely a concert that you more than likely haven't experienced. So go on, try something new. While you're at it, tell the bartender to make you a 'surprise' drink. That's always fun.
