Rockin' at Red Rocks
Morrison, Colorado may not be much to outsiders, but to us, it is where the musical magic happens. Every year they wow us with the national acts they book, for those concerts that we can actually remember. Let's be honest, it is a giant party once you've made it on the hill. For the summer of '08, this is no exception. We are ready to party with The Police, The Allman Brothers Band, Jethro Tull and John Mellencamp (just to name a few). Look at their summer concert lineup and get your tickets now before it's too late. Morrison, we love you. Get ready to party.
R.E.M. with Modest Mouse

pick R.E.M. with Modest Mouse

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

If you were a big "Full House," buff growing up you may remember the episode when Uncle Jesse thought he had booked R.E.M. for the grand opening of his restaurant. It turned out to be three older women that go by the name "R.E.M." for Renee, Ethel, and Meredith. That has forever been embedded in our heads. But, we are actually saying that Red Rocks booked the R.E.M. to play on June 3rd. The band that formed in 1980 and has won our hearts over ever since will be rocking out Morrison like they've never seen before. Come join in on the fun and score your tickets before it's too late. Not only do you get one of the best rock bands of all time, but they step up this magical night by having Modest Mouse and The Nation open for them. Rock on duders.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters

Big Head Todd and the Monsters

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

BIG HEAD TODD IS COMING TO RED ROCKS!!!!!!!!! Sorry, we couldn't contain ourselves. What more to say about BHTM? They bloody know how to rock and keep it real as a band. They have been together since the mid-80s and they still continue to do justice in the music world. They sound a little country, a little rock, a little blues...you name it, they do it. Thank goodness they haven't gone down the headache path of hardcore metal. If we were you and you were us, we'd probably already be in line for tickets to this concert. BIG HEAD TODD!!

Sheryl Crow with Brandi Carlile

pick Sheryl Crow with Brandi Carlile

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

We bet you 100 bucks that Sheryl Crow sings, "Soak Up the Sun." Fine, that's too obvious isn't it? The superstar performer is out promoting her new album, "Detours," which was just released this past February. She says herself that this album was inspired with what is going on in the world and what has happened to her the past couple years. Hmmm....wonder if there is a song about Lance Armstrong? Okay, we're being serious now, it is a really good album and you should go check it out. Although if you're reading this, you're probably a huge fan of hers and you already have that album memorized. If you're not a huge fan, why are you reading this?! You think she's hot, huh? The gates open at 6 p.m., so get there early as we're sure it's going to be packed.

The Australian Bee Gees Show

The Australian Bee Gees Show

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Stayin' Alive. Night Fever. Grease songs. You can hear all this and a bag of chips if you go to this concert. With state-of-the-art production, this show is going to satisfy all your 70s needs. Grab yourself a beer on the way up to your seat and be careful not to trip on your way up and slosh your beer everywhere and jive out for the rest of the night. Stayin' Alive. Oh yes.

Mark Knopfler

Mark Knopfler

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Mark Knopfler didn't shy away from his roots when compiling his bio. Go to his Web site and you can get his entire life story if you'd like. No, but seriously, he has earned a big bio. He has been playing and making music for decades and has even written the score for many well-known movies...like THE PRINCESS BRIDE! He truly is amazing and you are bound to love his concert if you want to look at the sunset at Red Rocks and just relax for the evening.

Widespread Panic

Widespread Panic

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Old hippies from all over the state are going to get down this weekend. It is a pure Panic attack weekend. In fact, our dads probably still have a Widespread Panic CD in their trucks. People get down and loopy when they listen to Widespread. They are playing all weekend at Red Rocks. Right on.

Unity Tour: 311 and Snoop Dogg

pick Unity Tour: 311 and Snoop Dogg

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Snoop Doggy Dooooooggggg. The bonified rap superstar is coming to Red Rocks. We should re-word it to say "Snoop Dogg and 311" not vice verse. He is such a flippin' bad ass we can't stand it. You seriously better score all your tickets before we here in the Metromix office snatch them all up. Right on. The doors open at 5 p.m., for the best night ever.

Stone Temple Pilots

pick Stone Temple Pilots

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

The band officially announced they are reuniting for a super gigantor tour of 2008. It wouldn't be that magnificent if they don't swing by Red Rocks...the best music venue ever. They are touring throughout May all the way to the end of November. We're getting tired just thinking about. Good thing they're coming here before they're zonked out. Mom, aren't you so excited the Pilots are coming? Get thereat 6 p.m., because that's when the doors open.

Cyndi Lauper is the tour's producer and creator, and of course, she's pumped for it. They are spreading the word about voting in November and to do so they have created a huge party with loads of fun attached. Ah hah! Take that P. Diddy and your "Vote or Die" campaign. They have The B-52s signed aboard! Not only that, for every ticket sold they will donate $1 to the Human Rights Campaign. This is a crazy fest with Rosie O'Donnell thrown into the mix.

Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Not only do you get to see them once at Red Rocks in July, you can see them the next day as well! We are going to get our dose of Foo fo sure. David Grohl will forever be a rock legend after playing in the great band of Nirvana then forming the Foo Fighters. What is it this foo that they're fighting anyway?..... ....Hmmmm, we have now figured out that the word "foo" really has no meaning but is used as a representation for variables in algebra. Are they kicking our math teachers asses then? Let's just ponder that for a moment and throw on a Foo Fighters album and rock out for the rest of the day.

Steely Dan

pick Steely Dan

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Growing up, every parent alive probably had Steely Dan rocking in the very first CD players made while barbecuing and cleaning their houses. At least that's what it was like for us. You're with us on that right? It is true that it doesn't matter what age you are, you dig Steely Dan. If you don't know who Steely Dan is, you are probably only 12 in which case you probably shouldn't be navigating this site. It is for big kids...super cool big kids that rock out to music and dig happy hours and stuff. You'll learn all about it soon enough. The doors open for the Steely concert at 6 p.m.

Lyle Lovett

Lyle Lovett

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Lyle is the king of everything. King of the world, dammit. He is coming to Red Rocks on July 18th, so be pumped for it! Just look at how much he kicks ass from his picture alone. Lyle is the man. People from all ages and walks of life will be at Red Rocks to see how much Lyle can still shake his groove thing.

The Police

The Police

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

Have you guys ever played the "Roxanne" drinking game where you take a sip of beer everytime The Police belt out Roxanne? If you are big drinking buffs, you gotta try it. By the end, you're going to have to go order another beer. Anyway, The Police sold 2.5 million tickets last year for their tour and we are stoked they're coming to Red Rocks. For two nights! If you're 50, 20, 30 it doesn't matter, everyone digs The Police. So score your tickets before it's too late.

ABBA-The Concert

ABBA-The Concert

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

We know that you're probably wondering how it's possible to do an ABBA concert with the drummer recently passing away. Our thoughts too, we're with you on that. But....this is the ABBA Tribute Band! And they are serious about it too. They have the only rights in the world to recreate the ABBA shows exactly word for word...the same style, the whole shebang. They are the largest touring ABBA concert ever and they have been doing it since 1995. So go on our lil dancing queens and have a blast tonight. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.

John Mellencamp with Lucinda Williams

Sweetness. John Mellencamp concert. He has made the last name "Mellencamp" look and sound cool. This rocker has released 23 career albums and now is on tour to honor his newest album baby called, "Life, Death, Love and Freedom." He is an icon in the rock world, so much so that he was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also rockin the night flame is 3-time Grammy winner, Lucinda Williams. This is a night you don't want to miss and the doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Steve Miller Band with Joe Cocker

Steve Miller Band with Joe Cocker

Yonder is returning to Red Rocks after having a killer sold out show last Labor Day weekend. George Thorogood & The Destroyers

pick George Thorogood & The Destroyers

Fillmore Auditorium - 1510 Clarkson St. - 17th Avenue / Up Town

George Thorogood "Bad To The Bone": "On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round. And they gazed in wide wonder at the joy they had found. The head nurse spoke up said 'leave this one alone'. She could tell right away that I was bad to the bone. Bad to the bone. B-b-b-bad. B-b-b-bad." Go search through your parents CD collection. We guarantee you that George Thorogood is in the mix somewhere. But in all reality, no matter how old you are, you have rocked out to George before. He is not just bad to the bone, he is bad ass. Rock on party people.

Jethro Tull

Jethro Tull

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

No, youngsters. Jethro Tull is not his name, it's the band's name. The guy playing the flute is called Ian Anderson. And yes, that is a flute. No, not the magical flute from H.R. Puff N Stuff. We have a lot to teach you, young grasshoppers. Jethro Tull has released over 40 albums and they still know how to put on an excellent concert. Go out and buy one of their albums and you will be addicted. If not, re-gift it for your mom's birthday and she'll love it.

Jack Johnson

pick Jack Johnson

Red Rocks Amphitheatre - 17598 W. Alameda Pkwy. - Morrison

His show is sold out. In fact it sold out within 9 minutes and some of us Metromixers in the office were super bummed out about it. That's totally fine. We're happy for those of you who freakin' signed in within 20 seconds and got one! Dah. How did you do it?? Anyway, Jack Johnson is known for his amazing lyrics, smooth guitar playing, and his love for life. His song, "Bubbly Toes," put him on the map and ever since then he has put on some great concerts. Dah, how did you get tickets!? We hope all of you have a super fun time at his concert. We'll just put a poster of Red Rocks on our wall with his album playing and drink wine all by ourselves. Sigh.

The Allman Brothers Band with Bob Weir and Ratdog

Right on, Denver. One of the best bands of all time are hitting up Red Rocks. This is seriously the summer of good music and The Allman Brothers Band totally end it with a bang. They have a 39-year tradition of playing some mixed nuts between the old and the new. So even if you saw them decades ago, guaranteed they're switching up the goods so you will rock out hard. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. for this rockin' concert. OWWWW Allman Bros!
