Put on your rocker-wear for this summer lineup
During the summer, Coloradans are like bears, ready to emerge from hibernation and party hard. Luckily, the local Denver music scene is huge, like Kodiak bear huge. The Bluebird supplies us with musical entertainment pretty much every night of the week. They book national acts, but they also stick to the serious local groups with lots of potentional. Party hardy, Denver. Summer has frikkin' finally arrived.
Jamie Lidell

Jamie Lidell

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Jamie goes by Jim. He sounds like a mix between Maceo Parker and Jamie Lidell. Just kidding. He just knows how to bring the entire funk party to town. We don't know how to explain it better. Let's just picture ourselves rocking to Jamie...ooops, we mean Jim: You are shimmying your head back and forth. Before you know it your foot is tapping. Damn, you just sloshed your beer. That's okay, shake it off shake it off. Then all of a sudden Jim goes at it and you are doing turns in your badass Converse sneakers. The funk has officially arrived.

Hearts of Palm with The Rogue

Hearts of Palm with The Rogue

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

If you're one of those people who says, "We hate Starbucks those crap corporations are taking over.. blah blah blah," then you better support your local music scene too. Hearts of Palm is from Denver and they seriously know how to rock the night away. Joining them for the evening is The Rogue. The show starts at 9 p.m., so you'll be good and buzzed by then....and not by Starbucks of course.

The Fiery Furnaces with Grande Ole Party

If you're locals to Colorado you've probably made the trip to Moab, Utah at one point or another, right? Come on, you know the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park where you need a damn guide to navigate you through or you'll get lost forever..okay now we're talking to ourselves. That's just what we thought the first time we heard of the band The Fiery Furnaces. Their music is pure poetry. You get lost in trance and get all deep while listening to their music. Tonight they're performing with Grand Ole Party.

Sleepy Hill with Mamzers Dream, 66 Rising and Strange Condition

Sleep Hill must take some serious stimulants before hitting the stage. Let's be frank, they aren't sleepy at all. This local Denver band plays all over the place in music venues and bars across the Front Range. The band is compiled of three rockers by the not-so rocker-names—Rob, Stephen and Bobby. Tonight they are bringing their energy to the Bluebird along with a couple more acts; Mamzers Dream, 66 Rising and Strange Condition. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Arcanium CD Release Party

Arcanium CD Release Party

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

No they aren't characters from a lost Steven Spielberg horror flick, it's the local metal band, Arcanium. Tonight you can come celebrate their second CD release party with Resthaven, Shadow Work, Nutricula and Smackfactor joining in on the rowdiness. Come support Arcanium, and the new album of pure hardcore metal love. The show starts at 9 p.m.

The Black Angels with The Warlocks

The Black Angel's role model as a band is to view life as Aristotle did—to deal with life's sanity by living it for what it is. Or something like that (try to put Aristotle's lessons into a nutshell, it's hard to do!). Currently, The Black Angels are spreading their word while traveling all over the country. Tonight you can see them along with The Warlocks. The show starts at 10 p.m., and for a Saturday you'll probably be on beer number three by then.

Dave Barnes

pick Dave Barnes

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

We can already picture the girls outnumbering the guys to see Dave Barnes tonight. What can we say, he is major eye candy for that of the female species. Okay, and he is a good musician from Nashville...we can get too distracted. What really makes him worth checking out is for his wonderful sense of humor as well. He just enjoys life and that reflects his shows that he plays. The show starts tonight at 8 p.m.

U.S. Air Guitar Championships

pick U.S. Air Guitar Championships

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

We all think that we have what it takes to truly rock the air guitar. We've all done it in our bathrooms while getting dress or in our cars while we're stuck in traffic. But, do we really have it?! Like so much so that we can compete nationally with our natural ability to be air guitar rock stars? Founded in 2003, the U.S. air guitar championships have grown to be a huge event, with competitors all over the country proving their musical talent with one of our favorite instruments ever invented—the air guitar. Tonight you can come root on the competitors at the Bluebird Theater. This night is going to be pure craziness. At least it won't take forever setting up for the next acts with all their equipment.

Solemn Empire with Silence Within, Apathy and No Fair Fights

Denver sure can give birth to some killer metal bands. People don't quite realize just yet how huge the Denver metal scene really is. Bands like Solemn Empire are raising the bar for the scene as well—crunching a whole bunch of techniques into their style. If you're a metal-head, this is the night for you. Also joining forces with Solemn Empire are the bands Silence Within, Apathy and No Fair Fights. Your Thursday night has never looked so good before.

The Fluid with Boss 302 and The Omens

The Fluid just announced that they're going to play at the Sub Pop Records 20th Anniversary show in Seattle this July. The Fluid can be noted as being some of the first in Denver to really rave out the local punk scene in the early the 80s. By the early 90s, they had quite the following, people loved their punk power. Their first show alone drew a crowd of over 400 concert goers. Tonight they are sharing the stage with the groovy bands, Boss 302 and The Omens.

Corey Smith

Corey Smith

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

A little bit of country, a little bit of rock'n'roll.....that should totally be Corey Smith's bumper stick. That's how he rolls. Corey is an amazing musician who woo's crowd over, not by being super cool (he is that, too), but for being a genius with his songwriting skills. Come swing by and see a mix between rock'n'roll, blues and country, babies.

Dead Ringer with With Arms Raised and The Dropskots

Dead Ringer is a punk band out of Denver....Colorado, that is. Punk and metal bands are taking over the local music scene with great bands like Dead Ringer leading the way.

Disco Mountain

Disco Mountain

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

They put it perfectly, "Disco Mountain is dedicated to the art of shakin' ass." There is an art to it too. If you want to come shake what yo mama gave you, come tonight to see Disco Mountain.

Fault Line with Less Than Under, Born in Winter and Heeler

Fault Line is, you guessed it, a Denver metal band. They formed nearly a decade ago and have been performing together in Colorado ever since. If you're wanting to head bang and mosh, this will do the trick. But, instead of just seeing one band tonight, you get to see four—Less Than Under, Born in Winter and Heeler will all be performing. Talk about a bargain. $9 for four bands?! Shaw.

Eric Hutchinson and Marie Digby

Eric Hutchinson and Marie Digby

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Talk about a killer lineup tonight. This duo is sizzlin' hot. More than Chili's sizzlers. Booyah. Marie Digby has a really cool story about how she got started. She posted a video of her performing Rihanna's song, "Umbrella," acoustic-style and the video got viewed thousands of times, was use on the MTV reality show, "The Hills," and even got her a spot on "Last Call with Carson Daly." Right on. Except for the whole Carson Daly thing. He definitely sucks. She is joining forces with Eric Hutchinson which makes it a night that you absolutely can't miss.

thiC with Defending the Pilot, The Skyline Surrender and The Silence Within

Nope, it's not a typo, we didn't have a baby mess with our keyboard, that's the name of their band, "thiC." They even held 30 odd auditions to find the final members to complete the group. Come support this serious band along with Defending the Pilot, The Skyline Surrender and The Silence Within.

Lez Zeppelin

pick Lez Zeppelin

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Lez Zeppelin. This is by far one of the coolest bands ever in the world. Maybe because it consists of three totally hot babes rocking to Led Zeppelin songs. People always say that it's the product that will sell, and if it's a good damn product, you'll bank off of the idea. This is the best product ever. Hot girls all over the globe are probably pissed they didn't start Lez Zeppelin first. Not only that, they are damn good. The lead singer, Sarah McLellan has pipes, man. They can rock it hard. Move your asses over, Danity Kane, this is the girl band to see.

Charlie Hunter Trio

Charlie Hunter Trio

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Most 16-year-olds sneak behind the track bleachers to smoke cigarrettes, but for Charlie Hunter, that's when he officially realized he wanted to be a musician. This is a breathe of fresh air for the Bluebird, adding a nice jazz night into the mix. The Charlie Hunter Trio is loads of fun, perfect for a Saturday night.

Low

Low

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

No, we're not talking about Flo Rida's clubbin' single, "Low." We'd be wayyyy off. We're talking about the band that is from Minnesota (don't ya know), and has been together since 1993. We're going to have a deep thought: We wonder if the bassist from Low ever feels like the third wheel since the other band members, Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk are husband and wife. Or maybe they get freaky-deeky. Anywhoskies, they're coming tonight so have a freakin' fun time.

The Hush Sound and The Morning Light

Happy music. That's what The Hush Sound will do to your emotions, folks. Upbeat with amazing vocals by, Greta, you're bound to bob your heads and tap your feet to their music for sure. Perfect way to end a week of work, no doubt about it.

Reckless Kelly with Jason Boland & The Stragglers

It just works when country bands are from Texas. You know what we mean? It's like salsa being made it New York City. It's just not the same thing. That's probably one of the reasons why the country group, Reckless Kelly, is uber huge—they're from Texas. Yeehaw. And the fact that they're just boot scootin' good. They slow things down for their romantic ballads and will make you line dancing in no time for their fast tracks. They'll fit in with the Colorado crowd perfectly. At least fit in with some of us.

Wednesday 13

Wednesday 13

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Don't take Lunesta after this concert, you're bound to get nightmares for sure if you do. Wednesday 13 is kind of scary looking, but it works for him. In fact it's kind of sexy in that, "I am going to eat your children," kind of way. The music resembles Metallica's, "Enter Sandman," during some verses of songs. Come root on this kind of scary, kind of sexy creature tonight.

Split Lip Rayfield

Split Lip Rayfield

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

Listening to bluegrass music is just fun as hell. Right, right? Are we all on-board with this conclusion? At least we know one thing for sure, listening to the bluegrass works of Split Lip Rayfield is fun as hell. They sure make playing a kazoo sexy. Come be happy and have fun tonight with this fun-lovin' group from Kansas.

Slim Cessna's Auto Club

Slim Cessna's Auto Club

Bluebird Theater - 3317 E. Colfax Ave. - Denver

It's always fun when bands give acknowledgement to their crowd. During the show, this hilarious country groups gets the audience to participate in the fun. You never know what to expect with their music. Happy, sad and sometimes damn hilarious, you get a mix of emotions at this show.
