What inspires a song for you, and are there any songs that are particularly special?
Jason: My inspiration comes from life. The mood I’m in. When something just feels like a song, I pick up the guitar. “Hard To Be Away,” is a great song and is told from someone else’s perspective; their feeling toward their partner. I think that made it a challenge to capture.
“Color Blue,” is one of the oldest songs I have in the catalog, and I debated recording it at first. But, it’s a fun song to me as a musician. It’s about one of my best friends. She and I were good friends and ending up falling in love. It’s about the battle within and whether to cross that line or not. Well, more to cross it really [big smile]. Finally, the song, “Breaking Over You,” is close to me. As a writer, I went in a direction with writing I always wanted to go. I was able to develop a style I always wanted to go toward that I wanted my sound to be like.
