Even anarchic, anti-corporate, first-wave punk bands can succumb to lawsuits and infighting, as is the sad case with Bay Area stalwarts Dead Kennedys. Following a mostly amicable 1986 split, inequalities in royalty payments were discovered and lengthy legal battles ensued. Then in 2001, members of the Dead Kennedys—minus outspoken frontman Jello Biafra—reformed the band, hiring former child actor Brandon Cruz as the new lead singer. They cycled through two more non-Biafra frontmen, including Ron “Skip” Greer (above, second from left), before going on hiatus in 2008.
