'Jingle Bells'
The best: Richard Cheese (from "Silent Nightclub")
You know those insufferable Jingle Cats and Jingle Dogs novelty albums, where animals meow and bark out the melodies to holiday songs? On his “Silent Nightclub” album, lounge-act satirist Richard “Dick” Cheese does a swingin’ cover of the Jingle Dogs’ version of “Jingle Bells” that has to be heard to be believed. You’ll never hear “Jingle Bells” again without woofing along.
The worst: Crash Test Dummies (from "Jingle All the Way")
Speaking of inhuman sounds: has any singer in rock history ever had a weirder voice than the sepulchral moan of Crash Test Dummies frontman Brad Roberts? And has any band been a less likely candidate for recording a Christmas album? If you ever wondered what “Jingle Bells” would sound like as a funeral march, here’s your answer.
Also performed by: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, B2K, Kenny Chesney, SpongeBob SquarePants, Jimmy Buffett, Barenaked Ladies, Brad Paisley, SHeDAISY, James Taylor, Barry Manilow, Amy Grant, John Denver, Lisa Loeb, Skid Row, Harry Connick Jr., Sufjan Stevens, Crazy Frog.
