as a die-hard U2 fan since 1983, and someone who listens to a lot of music, mostly of the pitchfork variety, i would like to respectively submit that any critic giving NLOTH four stars is deluded. If in comparing these songs to their pre-1997 output, and to other quality rock/pop music out there today, you are not able to recognize the sheer mediocrity of most of these songs, then you have no business reviewing albums, much less those by the biggest band in the world. NLOTH is to varying degrees a mess, banal, un-catchy, un-cool, unfocused, uninteresting, desperate. and believe me, no one feels sadder about that than me.
