Born from the success of competition-based reality show “Project Runway,” and using essentially same formula, “Shear Genius” pits 12 hairstylists against each other for a $100,000 prize and the title of, um, Best Haircutter Ever or something.

You know the drill: At the end of each episode, someone gets kicked off, and we get to witness their teary goodbye and a promise that we “haven’t seen the last of them.”

Who's that? Former Charlie’s Angel Jaclyn Smith is to “Shear Genius” what Heidi Klum is to “Project Runway.” Except we can’t figure out what Smith has to do with hairstyling, aside from the fact that she has a pretty great head of hair. Celebrity stylist Kim Vo and Allure editor Kelly Atterton round out the panel of judges.

Buzzed about: Some of the stylists have actual talent and deserve some recognition. There, we said it.

The "ooh" factor: The challenges are fun and occasionally border on the absurd. Examples include cutting hair blindfolded and recreating Marge Simpson’s signature beehive. There are also plenty of tie-ins, like an episode in which the stylists have to appease the real housewives of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”

The "eh" factor: Could the contestants possibly be more annoying? With lines like, “This is the blond ambition corner, bitch!” and “My name is Oshun—and I’m deep,” we can’t really stand most of these wannabes. The same old formula used in “Project Runway,” “Top Design” and “Top Chef,” is back for a fourth time and we couldn’t be more (yawn)—wait, what were we saying?

The verdict: If you’re really, really into hair styling (who isn’t?) and have a high tolerance for extremely annoying people (we don’t), then this show might be right up your alley (but probably not).

“Shear Genius” premieres Wednesday, June 25, at 10pm ET/PT on Bravo.
