Behind the scenes of George Clooney and Alexander Payne's Oscar-buzzed dramedy
By Geoff Berkshire, Metromix
Critically acclaimed and already off to a strong start at the box office, “The Descendants” has staked a claim as one of the frontrunners in the annual movie awards season. It doesn’t hurt that writer-director Alexander Payne’s previous movie, “Sideways,” was nominated for five Oscars (and won one, for Best Adapted Screenplay), or that five-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner George Clooney is his latest leading man.
“The Descendants” charts the Hawaii-set story of a father (Clooney) forced to reconnect with his two young daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) with a resonant mix of tragedy and humor. Read on for what Payne, Woodley and co-stars Robert Forster, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard and Beau Bridges had to say about working on the film.
