Are they hilarious or just awkward?
By S. James Snyder, Special to Metromix
Most movie teens want to appear like they have all the angles figured out. But the truth is they don’t know anything about the opposite sex. Their insecurities are what teen sex comedies are all about.
Take naïve virgin Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) in “Youth in Revolt,” opening Jan. 8. He creates an alter-ego to win over the object of his affection, Sheeni (Portia Doubleday). In the process, Nick becomes yet another in a long line of sexually confused teens making a fool of himself as he hopes to bed that special someone.
We’re paying tribute to those awkward teens with the gall to put it all on the line even as it becomes obvious they have no skills to speak of.
