Get your Colorado flick fix

The indie film scene in Colorado is all too often forgotten. We are here to make sure you don't miss out on any of our colorful state's film festivals this year. Vail, Aspen, even Colorado Springs are all hosting some of 2009's artsy film celebrations. If you are one of those people who only will see a film if it is sure to be a hit, this is your time to break out of the Hollywood shell.

Many independent films that are praised at local film festivals end up in the major theaters anyway. So why not be one of the first to see them?

From the mountaintops to the city lights, Colorado is home to several annual film festivals that no celluloid junkie should miss out on.

Aspen ShortsFest 2009

Experience the filmmakers of tomorrow in snowy Aspen. This film festival will be featuring numerous short films and will host not only the screenings, but fun, film inspired activites each day. Events include an international competition where short films from around the world will be viewed by many for the first time. Also, the MasterWorks seminar features highly acclaimed filmmakers, and shows these artists just how much their work is appreciated.

Vail Film Festival 2009

Vail always has something exciting and fresh going on. And this April is no different. Student films, Oscar shorts, animated films, action sport films, and feature length productions are all going up on the silver screen. Pass prices vary depending on how much you are in for. Just want to see the films? Only $45 is going to have to come out of your pocket. But, if you want star treatment and access to each event and screening, prepare to drop five Benjamins.

Indie Spirit Film Festival 2009

This film festival is one of a kind. An all access pass is only $100, which includes access to any event during the entire weekend, plus a free t-shirt to remember your journey by. Of course, if you are new to the indie scene and just want to check out a few of the films, $10 is all you will need. Over 50 films, including shorts, animated, features, documentaries, and more will be your entertainment for the weekend.
