New DVDs: Buy, rent or ignore?
"Paranormal Activity" "Jennifer's Body" "District 9" "(500) Days of Summer" "The Hangover"

You loved the movie, what about the DVD?

Find out as we examine the extras on this week's best movie DVDs...

"THE HANGOVER"

Stars: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis
Director: Todd Phillips (“Old School”)
Format: Single-disc DVD, Two-disc DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "The rush of craziness like stealing cop cars and marrying strippers comes from the actual act of doing it—uh, so I've heardnot just being told about it the next day."

Extras: Single-disc DVD: “Map of Destruction” featurette; “Three Best Friends Song”; gag reel.
Two-disc DVD: DVD extras plus both the theatrical and unrated versions of the movie; commentary by Phillips, Helms, Cooper and Galifianakis; footage of The Dan Band performing “Fame”; “The Madness of Ken Jeong” and “Action Mash-up” featurettes; additional pictures from the missing camera; digital copy of the theatrical version.
Blu-ray: All of the two-disc extras plus a picture-in-picture version of the above commentary; “Iron Mike Online Teaser”; “Cursing Mash-up.”

Worth watching: The “Map of Destruction” shows where in Vegas key scenes from the film took place, helpful when you plan your next vacation.
Worth skipping: The “Action Mash-up” and “Cursing Mash-up” are just redundant quickie clips from the movie you just watched.
Worth adding: A digital copy of the unrated version of the movie. For whatever reason, they only ever give you a digital copy of the theatrical version, not the unrated one, even if your DVD or Blu-ray has both. Weird.

Buy, rent or ignore: Rent.

"INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS"
Stars: Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz
Director: Quentin Tarantino (“Pulp Fiction”)
Format: Sinlge-disc DVD, Two-disc DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "As entertaining as it is audacious, a film that showcases Tarantino in top form and boasts a multitude of characters who could easily carry a movie of their own."

Extras: Single-disc DVD: Extended and alternate scenes; “Nations Pride,” the film shown in this movie; trailers.
Two-disc DVD: All DVD extras plus a roundtable discussion with Tarantino, Pitt and film historian/critic Elvis Mitchell; “The Making of 'Nation's Pride',” “The Original 'Inglorious Bastards” and “Quentin Tarantino's Camera Angel” featurettes; an interview with Rod Taylor; footage of Rod Taylor talking about the Australian beer Victoria Bitters; gag reel; movie poster gallery tour with Mitchell; movie poster gallery; digital copy.
Blu-ray: All of the two-disc extras plus BD-Live functions.

Worth watching: The trailers aren't limited to the ones you saw in theaters, international versions are also included.
Worth skipping: Though interesting, the poster gallery and poster gallery tour could've been combined.
Worth adding: While a commentary with Tarantino, Pitt and others from the cast would've been enjoyable, we have to wonder if a commentary by some real Nazis who didn't know what movie they were seeing beforehand might be more interesting. Or just scary.

Buy, rent or ignore: Buy the two-disc DVD or Blu-ray; Ignore the single-disc.
