The best haunted houses in Denver 2011
Time grows short in new haunt Time grows short in new haunt Time grows short in new haunt Time grows short in new haunt Time grows short in new haunt

There is nothing quite like parking on the side of some dark, gravely road and hearing screams off in the distance. The anticipation builds; what strange figure will pop out at you? Will you be grabbed and eaten alive and never return? Whatever the case, you're ready to get the knickers scared right off ya.

It's Metormix's favorite time of year when we get to subject ourselves to utter terror and delight in other's girly and ridiculous screams (or was that our own?) In any case, check out our guide to the best haunts in Denver... IF YOU DARE! MUAH-HA-HA-HA!

The 13th Door

pick The 13th Door

3184 So Parker Road - Aurora
720-298-8561

Frightmare

pick Frightmare

108th & Old - Westminster
303-GO-SCARE

Frightmare has been scaring the knickers off people for 27 years now. If you think that all haunted houses are the same and nothing will scare you, take our word for it—frightmare will make you sleep with your Care Bear night light tonight. They don't even want kids under seven coming into it since they will never sleep alone again.

Fright Fest at Elitch Gardens

2000 Elitch Circle - Denver

Brutal Planet, Blood Bath and the Tower of Doom! GO!

City of the Dead

pick City of the Dead

7007 E 88th Ave. - Henderson

A literal city built inside a massive event tent, filled with zombies and creatures born of the undead, it is among the largest, most intense haunted houses in Denver. They also have a lounge area featuring a bar which can be even more scary depending on who you are.

Primitive Fear

pick Primitive Fear

5155 E. 64th Ave - Commerce City
303-814-0411

The experts at Primitive Fear almost think they took the fear factor one step too far and we can't handle it. We'll see about that. The only thing too scary to handle is Joan Rivers without makeup and most of us can even tolerate that. No, but on the serious side, Primitive Fear is scary and the faint of heart should enter at their own risk.

Haunted Field of Screams & The Dead Man's Night Time Maze

pick Haunted Field of Screams & The Dead Man's Night Time Maze

104th Ave. & Riverdale Rd. - Thornton
303-913-5947

If you build it, they will come. Muahahaha. The Haunted Field of Screams is back for its 10th year scaring people. Come to one of the largest outdoor haunted houses there is in Colorado. It is an adult attraction and is not intended for children under any circumstances, which is a good thing...we have seen how scared they get in Black Bart's Cave at Casa Bonita. Tickets range anywhere between $16-$28 and they have group prices as well.

Curse at Slaughterhouse Gulch

pick Curse at Slaughterhouse Gulch

3184 S. Peoria St. - Aurora
720-261-0570

Muahahaha. Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch isn't for the weak stomach types. It is scary. The name pretty much sums it up the best. With 'curse' and 'slaughterhouse' both in its name, you know their sole purpose is for you to sleep with the lights on.

The Reinke Brothers' Haunted Mansion

pick The Reinke Brothers' Haunted Mansion

Spider Mansion

pick Spider Mansion

18301 W. Colfax Ave. - Golden
303-279-4646

It has been known for centuries that Heritage Square is haunted and souls have found their place in Spider Mansion. When people visit the mansion, the souls are not like Martha Stewart and do not enjoy the company. And that company rarely live to tell the tale. If you're ready to get freaked out this Halloween come to Spider Mansion.

13th Floor Haunted House

13th Floor Haunted House

4120 Brighton Blvd. Unit C2 - Denver
303-355-FEAR

Where is the 13th floor, and why is it absent in so many buildings? The 13th Floor, a sister attraction to Denver favorite The Asylum, aims to show you. Hint: It's not where they hide all the puppies and candy. They're bigger and scarier than last year. We didn't think it was possible, but get ready to be scared out of your knickers this year.

13th Street Manor

pick 13th Street Manor

5155 E. 64th Ave. - Commerce City
303-814-0411

Ah, the ol' 13th Street Manor story. Have you ever heard it? This is how the story goes [cue flashlights and horror music]. Each family that lived in the house slowly became insane as the years passed. Not long ago rumors of murder, insanity and even cannibalism came from the old Manor House on 13th Street. What happened to the families you ask? They vanished as quickly as they arrived. Muahahaha.

McConnells Greenhouse is no longer a greenhouse. It got possessed and demons are looking for their next victims. If you're in the mood to get zombie-ized, come to this creepy haunted house. It is the biggest—and only—haunted house in Lafayette. It is so scary, they suggest only people who are 13 and older take the risk of walking through it.

The movie "Children of the Corn" still seems to haunt many of us and yet, at Field of Corpses, it seems to be reality. People have reported seeing shadows walking around in the night throughout the corn field. So what do you do in this situation? You turn it into a haunted attraction! Come to the haunted Field of Corpses to see for yourself...and no, those aren't actors, wise guy.

Prison of Terror

1250 South Hover Road - Longmont

Just thinking of a prison is scary enough...but a haunted prison takes that scare up a scream. You see, it's the only prison in the state of Colorado that carries out the death penalties with horrible, ruthless techniques. The warden went insane. The prisoners went insane and now you can walk down the cold, haunted halls and truly see what your nightmare looks like. After all, some of the residents are dying to meet you.

You forgot The Mausoleum Haunted House, same people that do Spider Mansion. Good scare from the start to the end.
