Mondo Guerra is a name you have probably heard around Denver lately since he is currently a contestant on this season of “Project Runway.” But, one name you probably became familiar with last year was Matthew Morris (not to be confused with Justin Timberlake’s musician friend and Denverite, Matt Morris). Matthew Morris was on Bravo’s hit show “Shear Genius” and made it all the way to the finale.
Matthew Morris owns his own hair salon on Broadway and is preparing for a huge fashion show and fourth anniversary party on August 14. Metromix.com is excited for the stylish evening and decided it’s time to follow-up with Denver’s own reality star to see how Matthew’s life has changed since being on “Shear Genius” and to give us his tips to avoiding Colorado dry hair we’re infamously known to have!
Hi Matthew! Briefly explain how your life has changed since placing third on Bravo’s hit TV show “Shear Genius.”
A lot of opportunities have come my way since the show—some crazy endorsements, traveling and doing education, helping with a ton of shows at New York Fashion Week, but even with all of the new opportunities, I am still "Jenny from the block."
What was it like watching the season from Denver?
Watching the season from Denver was the most nerve racking part of the entire experience.
Do you have any regrets from doing the show?
There is nothing I regret whatsoever, and this was the best season to do it.
Have you kept in touch with any of the contestants?
Yes, Janine and Faatemah
How about your show nemesis and season three winner, Brig? Have you talked with her since the show?
Who?
A fellow Denverite fashion designer, Mondo Guerra is currently on this season of “Project Runway.” Have you ever met Mondo?
Yes!! I love Mondo! He is so talented!
Being a local reality star, do you have any words of wisdom to give Mondo?
No. He is a grounded person, he knows what he is doing.
On August 14, you’re throwing a huge fashion show benefit party to celebrate your salon Matthew Morris Salon’s 4th anniversary. What can we expect from the evening?
Something Denver has never seen before as far as the runway presentation goes. Plus a great party to end the summer with.
Since you are a local celebrity, do clients have to book appointments far in advance to have their hair done at your salon? Or did you just up the numbers of stylists to avoid that?
I'm about a month and a half out for appointments. My stylists are busy too, but we make it easy to get people in. We're very accommodating.
Colorado is a dry climate and can be dreadful on hair care. What advice can you give readers to avoid a dried-out head of hair?
Stop washing it so much!! I'm developing an amazing dry shampoo so Denverites will quit drying their hair out. Otherwise, Matthew Morris Salon carries Kerastase and Shu Uemura Deep Conditioning Treatments that are fabulous.
Thanks for spending the time with us! We look forward to the fashion show on August 14. Do you have any favorite quotes you’d like to sign off with?
Signing off with "Stop trying so hard and work what your mamma gave you!!!"
