Denverites run their booties off for a good cause
For most people, running somewhere in public in their underwear is usually a bad reoccurring dream. But on Saturday, the second annual Undy 5000 convinced hundreds of people to run a 5K through City Park in their underwear …. on purpose. The race is a nationwide event where runners take on 3.5 miles and are more than welcome to sport their favorite boxers, panties, or tighty whiteys during the race that benefits the Colon Cancer Alliance. There was an amazing variety of outfits, usually underwear and buttocks-related.
Many came in groups with one theme and some fantastic team names such as The "Strollin’ Colons", "Up Yours (literally)," "S.O.S. (Save our Sphincters)" and many more. The team "Patsy’s Butt Brigade," named for a friend who is battling colon cancer won best costumes by adorning voluptuous plastic booties for their run.
The event also included a live band and plenty of vendors giving out cold drinks and massages. Some people ran for impressive times from start to finish on the course, and some just took a leisurely (and breezy) stroll. Either way, $100,000 was raised for the Alliance to kick colon cancer in the rear!
