Costume-clad pooches raise money for Denver Dumb Friends League
If you were at Elitch Gardens on Saturday, you probably had a howling good time. And not because of the sweet rides. The 12th Annual Pet Parade took over the amusement park to raise money for the Denver Dumb Friends League. And boy was it an afternoon to remember. The weather was 70 degrees, the park was packed and man's best friend was the highlight of the day.
The Halloween hounds first showed off their costumes for a huge crowd in the parade and then hopped over to the costume contest emceed by Slacker from Alice 105.9 and judged by metromix.com producer, Erica Boniface. With over 30 contestants, the furry competition was tough.
The costume contest was judged based on three categories: Funniest costume, most original idea and human-puppy combo costumes.
A judge favorite was the pup dressed as the dog whisperer, Cesar Millan, which got many laughs from the crowd. The family who dressed as Italy was also a judge and crowd fave—the dog was a bowl of spaghetti, the dad had a homemade gondola and the kids were dressed as the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Pope.
But it really wasn't about who won and who didn't win. It was a licking fun time for all involved and the event raised nearly $1,000 for the Denver Dumb Friends League.
