Foodies donate to a good cause while Denver restaurants compete for top honors
Giving to charity felt more like indulgence on Tuesday night as the Great Chefs of the West event kicked off at the Exdo Events Center in Denver.
The event, now in its 28th year, raises money for the National Kidney Foundation. And while they were at it, they might as well enjoy incredibly delicious concoctions from Denver's best restaurants! Fourteen different restaurants, caterers and confection companies gathered on a frosty evening to compete against one another for several different categories, including best appetizer, best entree, best dessert and a best overall award.
Folks who attended had a chance to participate in a pretty amazing silent auction that included everything from fancy wine to discounted suites at Denver's best hotels. Metromix's own Heidi McGuire and 9NEWS entertainment reporter Kirk Montgomery were present and served as the hosts and judges for the evening.
The winners of the best overall award for the evening went to The Rialto Cafe for creating a crispy braised pork belly with roasted carrot purée, bubble and squeak (brussel sprouts mashed potatoes wrapped and sauteed) and served with pork jus.
Delicious food paired with giving to a great cause easily created a great night!
