Leprechauns, Bagpipers and a lot of other stuff march through downtown Denver
If there is any doubt Denver absolutely loves St. Patrick’s Day, it would be completely squashed after seeing the 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Parade that rolled through downtown on Saturday. The parade, which is in its 49th year, packed the sidewalks of Blake Street with residents of the city, most whom were wearing some sort of green, as well as a myriad of other St. Patty’s Day apparel to celebrate the Irish.
The parade, which might just be one of the best the city puts on through the year, included bagpipers, Irish dancers, leprechauns, a fleet of Deloreans, PT Cruisers, marching storm troopers, and much, much more. There were also a few local celebrities in the parade including Alice 105.9’s BJ, Howie, and Erica as well as Miss Colorado and even Chewbacca the Wookie.
The Celtic Tavern was undoubtedly the place to be, with their patio overflowing with patrons dressed in green holding pints of something. There’s certainly no doubt the Irish spirit lives in Denver! — Josh Barrett, special to Metromix
