Metromix and Reel Social Club party '80s style
Denver's Lakeside Amusement Park was the venue Thursday night for Summer Scream, a wild party aimed so squarely at kids of the '80s that organizers might as well have booked Oingo Boingo and featured a guest appearance by E.T.
The 21+ event, celebrating the first anniversary of the Denver Film Society's younger, hipper stepchild Reel Social Club, featured free drinks and unlimited rides. Hundreds of people (many in full '80s regalia) took the opportunity to relive their childhoods on rides such as the Wild Chipmunk and Autoskooter bumper cars. In true Lakeside fashion, some of the rides seemed a little rickety, but that just added to the throwback fun.
The five-hour run time seemed insane at first, but the hours flew by in a neon-tinged blur. Here's hoping Summer Scream becomes a regular thing, rough edges and all. — Matt Farley, Metromix
