Colorado State trounce the Buffs
September 6, 2009
For the first time in two decades, the Colorado State Rams have claimed victory over the favored Colorado Buffs on the Buffs home turf. It's also the first win the Rams have had in the classic Rocky Mountain Showdown since 2006.
As the clock came to a halt with an ending score of 23-17, a sea of green spilled out into the field. It took over a half-hour before the amped-up Colorado State fans cleared out. The sensation was all too familiar for the green and gold speckled rams given that it was only less than a year ago Ram fans took to the field after a victory in the New Mexico Bowl over Fresno State-the last game the played. If there's any better way than closing a season with that kind of celebration, it's opening one that way.
There was also plenty of celebration to be had before the game. Busses came from all over Denver, with special RTD transportation just for this event and bars hosted special pre-game parties. Spill Lounge brought a crew of people up on its party bus, offering Denverites a debaucherously safe way to get to and from the game (photos 35-45).
