Fadó

The 17th annual Great Guinness Toast kicked officially kicked off the Saint Patrick’s day season, as pubs all around the world collectively raised a pint on Feb. 13 in celebration of both the rich and velvety beverage brewed in Dublin, as well as its 250th anniversary.

Denver had a special treat though. Head Guinness brewmaster Fergal Murray flew into the Mile High for the special occasion and kicked off a pub tour of epic proportions, raising pints and spirits all over the city… and Metromix kept up with him every step of the way.

The campaign was still business, even with the booze. Lobbying everywhere the bus stopped, Murray would remind people to get online and sign the petition to make Saint Paddy’s an official holiday in the States.

“It is in Ireland,” Fergal gallantly exclaimed. “And after what I have seen here tonight, there is no less love for the celebration than over there, so why shouldn’t it be recognized?”

Starting at Nallen’s, then off to the Cherry Cricket, Irish Rover and Dougherty's, things started to pick up at the Irish Snug. With his stout brigade, Fergal surprised one lucky patron with $317 bar tab for Saint Pat’s (3/17, get it?). From there it was another toast at Scruffy Murphy’s before the grand finale at Fadó’s. Barely making for the nationwide salute, Celtic band the Indulgers amped up the music as Fergal walked in and the Guinness started to flow.

The green season is here; 32 days and counting until Saint Patrick’s Day.—Justin Jimenez
