Fashionably late at the Matthew Morris Fashion Show

An evening of “Shear Genius” stars, Shequida and stylish Denver socialites

Metromix.com was joking about being fashionably late to the Matthew Morris Fashion Show and even though we were only 20 minutes late (the event time was set for 7 p.m. and we arrived at 7:20 p.m.), we ended up being ridiculously early. When we arrived to Cluster Studios, there were people sitting outside on white couches socializing with cocktails. We thought this was their choice, but boy were we wrong. It was because they weren’t ready to let people in the doors yet. In fact, they weren’t ready to let people in until 8:15 p.m. Always looking on the bright side of life, this did give Metromix the opportunity to mingle with the waiting socialites and crowd watch—Colored hair, high stilettos and sweet ensembles were the dress code for the night.

Here’s a little back story: Matthew Morris is the local star on Bravo’s hit hair show “Shear Genius,” he is also owner of the Matthew Morris Salon in Denver. The evening went to celebrate the salon’s fourth anniversary and it also raised funds for The Rocky Mountain Cancer Center Foundation. Matthew asked his friends from “Shear Genius,” Faatemah and Janine, to stop by and draw for the raffle. They weren’t quite as exciting as his other friend and drag queen superstar—Shaquida. Oh my gosh, the wait for the fashion show finally was worth it when it kicked off. Shaquida got the crowd going by singing her own version of the Pussycat Doll’s hit single “Don’t Cha” with sassy lyrics like “Don’t you wish you girlfriend was hung like me,” while thrusting her crotch toward the crowd in her full-body fishnet (see through) body outfit. We loved her performance and were so happy she was the emcee. Nice choice, Matthew.

Once the models began to strut down the catwalk our frustration with the late-start time dissipated. The wait was worth it. The fashion show went off flawlessly, showcasing designs from Shop Goldyn and ELC Men’s. The models were gorgeous, the designs were simple and the evening allowed women and men to get a glimpse into upcoming fall trends.

The routine on the runway was phenomenal and completely original. The runway was equipped with a moving catwalk and at moments the models just stood completely still moving down the runway all dramatically. Needless to say, this was one of the best fashion show’s Denver has ever seen.
