The Nuggets bowl for a good cause at Lucky Strike
Denver's basketball squad roll nothing but strikes for charity
January 14, 2010
What's more fun than bowling? Well.... not a whole lot, but if you're a basketball fan, how about bowling with the Denver Nuggets? So then what's better than bowling with the Denver Nuggets? How about bowling with the Nuggets while donating to charity? It doesn't get much better than that, which is exactly what went down Thursday at Lucky Strike bowling lanes in the heart of downtown Denver. Lucky Strike hosted the 2010 Nuggets Bowling Ball to benefit Kroenke Sports Charities. Now, when you hear the title "Nuggets Bowling Ball" you might think of players sporting tuxedos and ladies sporting gowns with lots of diamonds involved, while keeping score of strikes and spares. But in reality, downtown's hip and stylish bowling lanes were the location for a hot party while helping those in need. Several Denver-based companies including Qwest, Key Bank and more participated in the nights events which included two rounds of heated competition on the lanes, only to be broken up by a celebrity bowling round that included pretty much all of Denver's finest on the b-ball court, as well as 9News newsteam and, of course one of your favorite Metromix contributors.
To start things off correctly, some of our beloved Nugs, specifically J.R. Smith, Renaldo and Johan Petro participated in celebrity bartending, pouring plenty of Red Bull and vodkas to prep everyone to get their bowl on. Shortly to follow was the celebrity bowling round where each lane included Nuggets and local celebrities. Melo and Chauncey Billups' lanes seemed to hold the high scores for the celebrity round, and the lower scores seemed to be with Chris "The Birdman" Anderson, and unfortunately the Metromix/9News crew (we should have used bumpers). Regardless, the evening was filled with fantastic beats provided by the DJ, and lots of smiles knowing plenty was given to a good cause!
