New York’s art world is all abuzz about Tim Burton's new retrospective at the MoMA, featuring 700-plus sketches, concept art, drawings, paintings, photographs and even a few amateur films. It's the museum's most exhaustive exhibition of a filmmaker yet.

Even the director-artist himself seems to have been caught off-guard. "I feel like it's a weird dream—I'm not sure that it's real. But it's very exciting," Burton told Metromix earlier this fall. Art-insiders, however, remain in awe. “The Museum may never be the same again," MoMA director Glenn Lowry joked at the opening. Here's a peek inside the thrilling exhibit. Opens Sunday, Nov. 22.
