Doggy pool party was a howling time
The Shylo Country Club for Dogs partied for a cause
August 1, 2009
About a half-hour east of Denver, there is a patch of country land where barking is the language of choice and hairy wresting is the pack pastime. Welcome to Shylo, a country club for dogs.
Once a year, the canine home-away-from-home treats its residents and prospective residents to a summer pool party. We’re not talking $5 dollar plastic tubs from Toys-R-Us, we mean the real deal: a full size human pool, diving board and all. It’s an amenity available to all the dogs that board there, along with heated kennels, spacious runs, and more.
The event was a benefit for the Denver Dumb Friends League. At a cost of $20 a ticket, 100% of the proceeds went straight to the DDFL.
“We like to offer our clients a chance to see what kind of experience their dogs are getting when they send them to us. But more importantly, it’s a benefit for the Dumb Friends League,” explains manager Jeanette Schaffer over music, splashing and barking. “We are trying to generate money for them to help keep them going, both for what they do and because a lot of our clientele dogs are dogs from the Dumb Friends League, so it’s our way of giving back to them.“
The furry fun was not only a gathering for dogs, but also for humans. Friendly clients and visitors of all ages enjoyed margaritas and relaxed under the sun while their rambunctious companions enjoyed some socializing of their own.
