STS9, Pretty Lights and more flash through Red Rocks

As a sea of dancing bodies and hands wavered over the stage, an elegantly controlled chaos of lights spilled out into the crowd. Rain came down, and hardly a person budged from their blissful dancing perch. It was a moment to behold, as local Colorado artist Pretty Lights played through the water, giving headliner STS9 a run for their money. It was the first show ever at Red Rocks for the Ft. Collins band, which is headed up native producer Derek Smith.

After the stellar opening act, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9) came on for a two set show. Again, from the tip of the stage to very end of the venue, the euphoria filled crowd danced to a blaze of flashing lights and beats.

The show was part of the three-day “Day Out of Time” celebration that took place in nearly a half dozen venues and featured upwards of 20 musical acts, including Pretty Lights, The Album Leaf, Pnuma Trio, Daedelus, Flying Lotus, Telepath, Nosaj Thing, and Bass Science.  The “Day Out of Time” title comes from the Meso-American calendar, which incorporates days not recognized by our current calendar system.
