When you think of the 60s you think of hippie-drab clothing, major college protests, the Civil Rights Movement—but come on, how can we possibly forget the family musical classics we all grew up watching today?
In the 1960’s it seemed as if fun, family musicals were all the rage. The Gnome Mobile was released in 1968 starring the kids from Mary Poppins, and, well on that note, Mary Poppins, was released in 1964 with Julie Andrews proving that all nannies aren’t all old and curmudgeonly.
Just when you thought they couldn’t get better, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang came out in theatres in 1968. That’s when the ‘cool’ movement broke out in our minds—they made a car fly, and to us, that is just hardcore.
Today, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is popular for people of all ages, from old to young. Some grew up watching it in their childhood and some are just now figuring out how simply entertaining the story of Chitty truly is.
Currently, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is playing at the Buell Theatre through July 26, and the kids in us had to swing by to relive the catchy tunes, the crazy characters and the fantasmagorical flying car!
