Four-legged stars audition for "The Two Gentlemen of Verona"
Canine actors audition in Boulder
To woof, or not to woof, that is the question. Actors auditioned on Thursday to hopefully be chosen to use lines like these. Well, maybe they won't actually be using any lines at all, because the audition was restricted to dogs only. A group of people and their furry friends showed up to the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre to try out for a part in the Shakespeare play "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," which will be directed by Tom Markus.
The four-legged participants auditioned for the part of "Crab," a large, good-natured pooch, as well as the part for "Jewel," a small fluffy dog. Director Tom Markus made his rounds to greet and to get to know the furry actors, and to evaluate which dogs would best play each part. Dennis Elkins, who will play "a clown" will be interacting with the dogs in the play, and took time with each dog bringing them on stage to see if any of the dogs were shy when in front of an audience.
"Dogs get stage fright just like people," stated Markus as he welcomed the crowd.
"Two Gentlemen of Verona" will be featured as part of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival on the CU-Boulder campus July 19th through August 9th.
