A Meadowlark regular says goodbye

After four years, local band L’elan Vital is wrapping up its tenure as one of Colorado’s defining “Post-Post-Rock” bands.

The eclectically vibrant band played one of its very last shows this past weekend at the Meadowlark. For any local music junkie, it’s common knowledge that the Meadowlark is one the most intimate concert settings in the state. As such, it’s only appropriate the band play one of their final shows there; not just because they happened to have regular performances at the venue, but more so because their music is just that–intimate.

L’elan Vital’s sound is unique, beautiful, colorful, resonating, meaningful, and, hilarious.

Not only will the music suck you into an unrestrained state of relaxation and bliss, the vocals and song titles will often leave you chuckling. For example, “Clarissa Didn’t Explain Shit,” a song playing on the words of the 90’s teeny-bop Nickelodeon show “Clarissa Explains it All,” is set to a heavy violin, keyboard and soft lyrics.

Under bittersweet circumstances, the band members all happen to be a little too successful in their respective careers, and work is forcing some of them elsewhere.

“We’ve been together four years. That’s an incredibly long time for a local band not to make it big,” says vocalist Brandon Bosch laughing. “It’s also a really long time for any band to stay together and not hate each other at the end, to not have ripped each others heads off by now.” 

But don’t fret. The band will still be getting their music out there and have left the door open to some occasional shows when they are all in town.
