Famed mixologist gives Metromix some tips
Over the past few years, mixologist James Lee has made his mark at most of Big Red F Restaurants' establishments. Thanks in large part to Lee, the organization (which includes such eateries as Zolo and Jax) has won numerous best bar and best drink awards. Playboy also named Lee one of the top mixologists in the country. Now working at Happy Noodle House's nighttime alter-ego Bitter Bar, Lee is still going strong, and teaching some home bartending classes to boot. He stopped by recently to show "Metromix.com TV" host Heidi McGuire a few of his best tricks.
Bitter Bar also offers cocktail classes to the public so you can learn how to shake and shimmy some cocktails in your own kitchen! View upcoming cocktail classes now!
Okay, okay. We can't just keep the recipes to ourselves. Here are a couple fantastic cocktail recipes that James provided to us:
Grandma on Fire:
1.5 oz. Hendrick's Gin (or substitute vodka)
0.5 oz. Domaine de Canton Ginger liqueur
0.75 oz. fresh lime juice
0.75 oz. cranberry juice
0.5 oz. flaming Grand Marnier floater
—add all ingredients together (except for the Grand Marnier) in a mixing glass with ice and shake for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass then add the floater of Grand Marnier. Just don't light yourself on fire doing it dudes!
WaterMaker:
2 oz. Maker's Mark bourbon
1 wedge of watermelon
0.75 oz. lemon juice
0.5 oz. Agave nectar
—Muddle watermelon into a mixing glass first, then add the bourbon, lemon and Agave nectar with ice and shake for five seconds. Strain into a large old-fashioned glass with crushed ice.
